Bundle Of Steel Rods Fall Onto Worker
A bundle of heavy steel rods came apart and rolled onto a worker. He died of head injuries.
The incident occurred when the victim was trying to open the bundle by cutting the steel straps, which secured the rods. The load shifted, pinning his right foot beneath a heavy steel rod and throwing him to the ground. The rest of the steel rods rolled onto his body, causing fatal injuries.
Training in properly documented procedures could prevent tragedies such as this one. The steel rods should have been stored properly in an adequate rack and the bands should have been cut in the correct order. Safety signs and safety training should be available in all the dominant languages of the workplace. In order to deal with incidents such as this, first aid training should be available to all employees and easy building access should be available to emergency vehicles.
