Deadly Skid For Speeding Gravel Truck

Do you know no work deadline is more important than safety? Or would you ever drive too fast for safety because of job pressure?

Consider what happened to a driver hauling gravel in a hurry to a construction site.

Things started to go wrong that day when it was discovered there wasn’t enough gravel on the site to finish backfill work. So the driver was sent for another load. He got the dump truck filled and started back. Rain began to fall and he stepped on the gas to deliver the gravel in time to finish work before the weather got too wet.

On a slippery city street, the speeding truck skidded into the median. It then slid through a break in the median and crashed head-on into a van. The gravel truck driver was killed. So was the driver of the van, who was driving on the job for another company. A fellow worker riding in the van was badly injured.

Whether racing a rainstorm in a heavy gravel truck or adjusting a punch-press without locking out, working too fast can cause serious injuries and death. Take the time to work safely.
