Gasoline Tanker Rolls and Burns

A truck-trailer unit pulling a second small tanker trailer rolled over and collided with a parked transit bus, causing a fire and explosion. The truck driver was killed.

The rig was carrying gasoline. The driver was inexperienced at driving this type of truck, but had completed a company-sponsored training course. It appears the truck was moving from the median lane to the curb lane when the driver noticed a parked bus at the side of the highway. He tried to steer around it. The speed the truck was traveling, a curve in the road, a low tire and the design of the small tanker trailer all contributed to the rig rolling over. It skidded along the road until it hit the bus. The tanker pup exploded and a massive fire followed.

Always be prepared for the unexpected when you are behind the wheel of any vehicle ? whether it is a big truck or your private automobile. Watch closely for speed postings. Maintain any vehicle carefully, including tire pressures.
