Ladder Safety for Agriculture Fatality File

Brain Injury Forces Tough Decision

Worker: 28-year-old male farm worker, named Aaron Moore

Incident: The worker climbed near the top of the ladder, reached out toward the ceiling, lost his balance, the ladder went one way and he went the other. He fell and hit his head on the concrete floor.

Injuries: Traumatic brain injury — skull fractured in six places, a quart of blood removed from his brain during surgery, resulting in long-term disabilities (left side movement difficulty, short-term memory issues, unable to handle stress as before).

Consequences: The family was forced to sell the farm (succession plan wiped away) because the worker could no longer work as before.
