Laundry Vehicle Strikes Pedestrian

A visitor to a hospital was seriously injured when he was hit by a motor vehicle carrying laundry. The driver was backing up and did not see him. The victim died three days later during surgery.

Motor vehicles and pedestrians are a hazardous combination. Drivers working in areas where members of the public are walking need to proceed with extreme caution.

Backup alarms, vehicle circle checks, traffic cones and adequate vehicle mirrors help to avoid such tragedies. There is no substitute for being as careful as possible. Never assume that a pedestrian will see you or will move out of your way.

When you are a pedestrian in an industrial or institutional yard, on the street or in a public parking lot, do not assume that a vehicle driver will see you in time to avoid hitting you.
