Course Description

The goal of this course is to teach you about the hazards associated with hurricanes, and the best practices you should follow before, during, and after a hurricane to protect you and your family. Hurricanes are a limited hazard to specific regions, but they can be devastating to those locations. When over the ocean, hurricanes cause the sea level to rise by several meters or possibly tens of feet. This leads to huge waves crashing into shores near the storm. Then when over land, hurricanes damage everything through the powerful winds, flown debris, and excessive flooding. There is not much you can do in the moment to stop these effects, but by taking this course you will be prepared with strategies to save your and others’ lives. You will learn basic techniques to protect yourself in a storm so that you survive it.
