Same level slips, trips and falls are occupational hazards that can be found in almost every type of work setting. It is estimated that 3.8 million disabling work injuries are caused each year by slips, trips, and falls, accounting for 12 percent to 17 percent of all workers’ compensation costs.
The incident rate, as measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), of “falls on the same level” increased to 15.4 injuries and illnesses per 10,000 full-time workers in 2013 compared to a rate of 14.8 in 2012. In examining the BLS data, falls on the same level are the second most frequent exposure leading to injury. “Contact with objects” is the only category with a higher frequency.*
