California road rage death: Man run over with his own car after crash

A man found dead on a Los Angeles County street was apparently beaten and then intentionally run over with his own car after a traffic collision, the sheriff’s office said.

The attack happened around 5:40 a.m. Sunday on Laurel Park Road, a street in a light-industrial area in the unincorporated Rancho Dominguez neighborhood.

Deputies at the Carson station received a call reporting an assault after a traffic collision. They arrived to find a 67-year-old man dead at the scene.

Witnesses reportedly said that the man had been in a collision, possibly caused by road rage. He and the other driver had left their cars — a Toyota Prius and a Cadillac coupe — and began arguing, and that turned into a physical fight.

The other driver beat the victim, then got into the victim’s car and ran over the man repeatedly, the sheriff’s report said.

After the victim’s vehicle became disabled, the assailant left on foot.

A suspect who was found in the neighborhood was identified by a witness and was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The sheriff’s office did not identify either party or release the booking photo.
