Steel Company Fined for 16 Alleged Serious, Repeat Violations

OSHA is proposing $102,000 in fines against a company for alleged repeat and serious violations. The repeat violations allege failure to enforce hazardous energy control, apply a lock on an energy isolation device, guard the point of operation on a jag press, ensure adequate protection against welding rays and against airborne overexposures to silica and failure to implement engineering or administrative controls for silica overexposures. The serious violations allege failure to provide adequate training on hazardous energy control, flashback protection of fuel-gas torches, to have procedures for the selection of respirators, to provide inspection, maintenance and cleaning procedures for respirators, measures to prevent overexposure to hexavalent chromium and proper training for airborne exposures to cadmium and lead.
