US Army Cited for Alleged Repeat, Serious Safety Violations
OSHA has issued citations for eight alleged serious safety violations and seven repeat violations following an inspection. The serious violations include a lack of forklift training, improper grinding wheel maintenance, a lack of inspection on high-voltage poles, a lack of assessment and use of electrical PPE, open electrical wiring and a lack of annual safety inspections to correct hazardous conditions. OSHA previously cited the US Army for violations at Fort Richardson, including hazards on walking surfaces, missing exit signs, PPE hazards, a lack of mounted fire extinguishers, modification of forklift forks without the manufacturer’s approval, unguarded vertical shafts on water pumps, and electrical deficiencies. While the hazards must be addressed, no fines can be levied by OSHA in this case because it cannot assess monetary penalties to other US government agencies.
