Overview

The term ‘Hot Work’ refers to any designated welding, cutting, and/or brazing operations. These procedures pose a unique set of hazards, such as fire, explosion, toxic atmospheres, electrical shock, and ultraviolet radiation which in turn cause a higher rate of employee injury. It is the employer’s responsibility to both provide satisfactory PPE and employee training. Note that employer responsibility also extends to the maintenance and inspection of equipment.

OSHA regulates welding, cutting, and brazing operations in the workplace where any type of electric/gas equipment is used (see 29 CFR 1910.251-.255).
