Work-At-Height in Warehouses: Pallet Racks, Order Pickers and Safety Picture This

image

This image shows a busy warehouse where workers are picking and storing products at height using pallet racks and an order picker. One worker is elevated several meters off the ground on an order picker platform without being properly tied off, leaning outside the guardrails to reach a load that is slightly out of position. Below, another worker is walking through the same aisle, unaware of the overhead activity. A pallet above appears unstable, with boxes not fully secured, while the area lacks clear exclusion zones or warning signage to keep others at a safe distance.

In warehouse environments, serious falls and struck-by incidents often happen when small safety steps are skipped under pressure to move faster. Working at height without proper fall protection, overreaching instead of repositioning equipment, and failing to secure loads can quickly lead to life-threatening injuries. At the same time, workers below are at risk from falling objects when overhead work is not controlled. Always use approved fall protection systems, stay within platform guardrails, secure loads properly, and establish clear drop zones to protect others. Safe work at height depends on control, awareness, and never taking shortcuts.
