WHMIS

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada’s national hazard communication standard for workplace chemicals. It aims to ensure the health and safety of workers by providing them with essential information about hazardous materials used in their workplaces. WHMIS requires suppliers to classify chemicals based on their hazards and provide labels that clearly identify these hazards. Safety data sheets (SDS) accompany each hazardous product, detailing its safe handling, storage, and emergency response procedures. Workers receive training on WHMIS symbols, labels, and SDS to understand the potential risks associated with chemicals they handle and how to protect themselves.
