Landscaper dies after hitting powerline on Johns Island, deputies say

OHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A landscaper has died after being electrocuted on Johns Island.

Deputies with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) responded to the intersection of Bear Swamp Road and Saint Hubert Way on Friday morning after receiving reports of two individuals who had been electrocuted while working in the area.

Officials said one of the individuals was on a 6-to-9-foot metal ladder while trimming trees while another held the ladder. One of the workers hit electrical wires overhead while trimming the trees.

Both landscapers were taken to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for treatment; however, one of the two died.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office will identify the victim when appropriate. The condition of the other worker was not provided.

Dominion Energy also responded to the scene.
