Reaching Field Workers Without Pulling Them Off The Job

Mobile-first learning can remove travel, scheduling, and connectivity barriers. Its value does not come from squeezing a desktop course onto a phone. It comes from designing training around the conditions in which field workers learn and perform.

A maintenance manager needs 36 employees to complete a refresher before a new piece of equipment is placed into service. The workers are spread across four locations and three shifts. Use the phone for the right work

Credible mobile-first programs draw a firm boundary between content that can be learned or reinforced digitally and performance that must be demonstrated in the workplace. A two-minute reminder may help a worker recall a decision rule. It cannot qualify the worker to operate unfamiliar equipment. A mobile scenario can reveal a misconception. The most effective mobile program is rarely β€œcourse only.” It combines consistent digital content with local conversation and evidence from the work.
