1-Year-Old Boy Dies at Daycare Facility After Slipping Through Small Opening on Playground Toy Slide

A 1-year-old boy is dead after his head became trapped in a small opening when he slipped on a toy slide at a daycare facility in Missouri.

On Thursday, Jan. 8, police responded to a call about “a child not breathing” at an in-home daycare facility outside Potosi, KSDK News reported. The infant had “slipped through a small opening on a playground slide” and their head “became lodged, restricting the airway and resulting in a loss of oxygen,” said Washington County Sheriff Dwayne Reed in a news release shared on Facebook.

“Two deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) were the first responders on scene and immediately initiated life-saving measures, including CPR," said Reed.

Fire Department personnel and the Ambulance District arrived shortly afterwards and also attempted life-saving measures on the child. The infant, however, later died as a result of the injuries sustained, the police confirmed.
